So as I mentioned the week before, interviews are this week at the University of Manitoba campus. This is always an exciting time as it is a chance for you to meet our awesome recruiters, but it is also a chance for us to get to know you better. This is one of the best chances for you to get to know why PwC is a great firm and a great place to start your career as an accountant. You will be meeting with Hans and Des, who are managers, as well as Kirsten and Patrick, who are two of our partners at PwC. Here are a few tips and hints as you are going into the interviews this week.
Tip 1: Prepare – Now I might sound like a broken record because I have said this about wine and cheese events and for CACEE forms, but getting on this early and preparing will make a big difference. How do you prepare for an interview, you may ask? Reading this blog is probably a good start. Start thinking about common questions you’ll be asked and think about meaningful answers. We’re looking to get to know the real you and why you would fit with our culture, so think about this before you arrive so you’re ready to go.
Tip 2: Relax – I know Halloween is just around the corner, but there is nothing to be afraid about. This isn’t life or death and we want you to be at ease and be yourself. We won’t be throwing any curve ball questions or expecting you to calculate CCA, so just come ready to chat and answer some things about yourself. The best way for us to get to know you and for you to be comfortable with us, is if you are relaxed.
Tip 3: Show up a bit early – There will be a greeter waiting outside the interview rooms waiting to chat with you and organize who you are meeting and where. Joel is going to be doing the greeting this year, so get there a bit early to make it easy on him and chat him up. Ask some questions about the work, the people, and the firm. Also, ask him about some of the PwC travel opportunities if you have the time. It’ll be one more person you know at the firm and one more person to gauge if this is your kind of firm.
Tip 4: Ask questions – We know there is a lot to take in during this process. Between exams, life, and other recruiting events, it is tough to get all your facts straight and know everything about a firm. Ask us questions during these interviews. It shows that you are interested in the company, you are taking the process serious, and it puts the interviewers on the spot. Turn it around on us and make us tell you why PwC is such a great place.
Tip 5: Follow up – The interview doesn’t stop when you leave. Follow up by sending an email to your greeter, interviewer, or another staff member (blogger) thanking them for the chance and letting us know how it went. We always like feedback and it usually shows that you’re serious.
Other than that, just remember, we are just as nervous about meeting you as you are about meeting us. We are trying to find people that will work well within our firm and help the firm succeed. We want to meet you and really get to know you, while also selling you on the firm and your future with us.
As always, let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. I am always happy to help.
