For the past 2 weeks I have been on vacation. During this time I travelled to New York City. It was the ideal time to travel to NYC because the weather definitely did not disappoint! This was my first trip to the Big Apple and I definitely plan on making a return trip. It is definitely true what they say about New York, it’s the city that never sleeps! I hope everyone is taking sometime this summer to enjoy the sun, family, friends and maybe even finding the time to travel.
While working at PwC there are times when the work can be long and hard, however this is not abnormal from the accounting industry in general. Here at PwC efforts are made to ensure that everyone is able to reap some rewards for the continual efforts they put forth. A few ways these are achieved are programs launched in the summer months, this is typically a “slower” time for the audit department and a time where us auditors get restless and eager to soak up some sun, or play a round of golf.
One of the popular programs is Flexible Fridays; this program gives eligible staff the opportunity to bank time in order to leave the office around 1 pm. on three or four Fridays during the summer months. This is nice to have when you want to go away for the weekend and get an early start! PwC is encouraging staff to use this, and I hope to participate in this program soon.
Another program that is promoted during the summer is the Flexible Time Away Program, this program is an opportunity to take unpaid time off over and above the annual vacation entitlement during designated periods. In audit the maximum time frame is usually 6 weeks. This is an ideal program if you are looking to backpack in Europe or complete a home renovation project, the options are endless.
Another program I took advantage of this summer is UFE reward days. After successful completion of the UFE (Uniform Exam), as a reward PwC allots each successful candidate 5 UFE reward days, these are to be used just like vacation days, therefore this equates to an extra week of vacation. I used these days to go on my trip, and still have vacation left to use. I am eager to start planning my next trip already.
Today was my first day back to work since before vacation (my alarm went off far too early). My NYC trip was my only big travel plans for the summer; however I will be spending some time in Toronto for work this summer which I am also looking forward to. Does anybody have any fun summer plans? If your an avid traveller, or are interested in hearing more about the programs PwC has to offer, please do not hesitate to ask! This represents only a few programs here at PwC, I look forward to sharing more of these with you!

Great post! It's good to see that even the busybee auditors have some time to relax and enjoy the sun :) So did you just take your UFE? How was it?

Hi there,
Thanks!- Glad you enjoyed the post!
I wrote the UFE last September (2011). Leading up to the UFE, the time off in the summer was enjoyable, i had the majority of the summer off to study. In terms of the actual test (3 days of testing actually), it is definitely challenging.I am sure everyone has a different experience with writing, but i found preparation to be key! Are you interested in the CA program?

I definitely am! I'm going into third year at Queen's Commerce in Kingston, Ontario, and it looks like the majority of my courses next year will be Accounting. How was your trip to NYC? :)
