So – you were a social butterfly at the
networking sessions, and built many meaningful relationships.
Then – you completely rocked your first (and
possibly second) interview, amazing your interviewers with your vast experience
and distinctive responses to their questions.
In the B.C. region, offers went out on
Friday, and because you were such a superstar, you have received offers from
more than one firm. Congratulations! Now
the tough part really begins – how do you choose between all of these great
opportunities?
It’s a date circled on every sport enthusiast’s calendar, it comes only once every two years. It has been close to 30 months since the entire country felt the excitement of Vancouver 2010 and starting today the world’s top athletes will once again battle it out for two full weeks trying to be that little bit “faster, higher, or stronger”. The 2012 Summer Games officially kick off in London, England tonight and I couldn’t be any more excited. While I am excited to sit back and cheer on our fellow Canadians in London, there are four athletes in particular that I will be rooting extra hard for.
I hope everyone enjoyed the Canada Day long weekend! My inventory observation went very smoothly on Saturday and I certainly took advantage of the great weather here in Ottawa throughout the weekend.
Something that I have always been passionate about is being active in my community. I have been actively involved (back in my hometown, on campus and now in Ottawa) in two things that really excite me – sport and politics.
The Citizen Compass initiative has been launched for almost two weeks! I have taken the time to participate in the Choicebook and have read several of the comments in the Idea Forum, have you? The Idea Forum topics range from services people would like to see online (adoption, passports) to apprehensions people have about the idea in general such as security. I encourage you all to take the time to visit both of these sites as they are very informative and very intriguing. The only way to have a say, is to participate!
Fellow Canadians, it is finally time for us to be heard. Amidst the economic turmoil that has taken over our thoughts and to some degree our lives over the past several years, many of us have been caught up in our own utopia and have forgotten that we too have a say in our government’s plans, actions and policies. After all, the government plays a vital role in our lives (believe it or not). With social media and other technology on the rise and time to ourselves and our family/friends on the fall, we must capitalize on any opportunity we can get to use technology to help mitigate the time crunch we are facing. I have an idea.
Being a member of the generation Y group, my life revolves around the use of the internet. I pay bills through online banking, I enjoy shopping from the comfort of my own home, if I need to research something for work, or if I am simply looking for a recipe I tend to mutter the words “I’ll google that”. The reality is the internet affects my routine on a daily basis, does it affect yours? What if government service access was as easy as online banking or online shopping? What if you didn’t have to spend your lunch hour waiting in line to renew your driver’s license or renew your vehicle registration? And, what if you were kept up to date and aware of the services the government has available for you?
Hopefully you have come to realize by reading previous blogs written by me and my colleague PwC is a very well-rounded firm. From the blogs on the office socials I’m sure you’ve learned that we like to have some fun. From the blogs about our UFE prep program, we’ve demonstrated we are a firm that emphasizes strong coaching relationships. In this blog, I want to share with you some of the ways PwC gives back to the community.
If everyone lived for themselves, where would this world be? If everyone helped no one but themselves, where would you be? Interesting thought. I know I definitely would not be in the position I am right now. No, I am not talking about my position as an Associate in the Audit and Assurance Group at PwC. I am rather talking about being in the position to help others and making a difference in their lives. Making a difference in your life. The importance of helping others is invaluable and for those of you who know me, or know about me, you would agree that I do my best to help others out as much as possible. Giving back to the community is what differentiates PwC from other firms. That is why I chose PwC.
This week is the official kick off of our annual United Way donations drive, which means there are a lot of activities and events happening all week. This got me thinking about the amazing volunteering opportunities and the ways that we are able to give back while working at PwC.
Brilliant futures were definitely created in Niagara Falls this past weekend at the PwC “Creating Brilliant Futures” National Conference! Sixty of the best and brightest students from across the country gathered for a two day conference at the White Oaks Conference Resort and Spa. From lavish entrees to extravagant activities and guest speakers, I was lucky to be part of the conference’s success as a PwC rep! Read on to find out why it was said by the students to be “one the best conferences they have ever attended!”
