As we’ve been busy planning for Global Diversity Week, one thing has struck me throughout the process. Diversity and inclusion isn’t just about one week – every day here at PwC we are living and breathing a culture that promotes these concepts.
As a leader and as a woman, I’m particularly proud of the progress we’ve made in expanding what diversity and inclusion means at our firm – it’s not just about visible differences like age, ethnicity, gender, etc. It’s also about diversity of thought, skills and perspectives. Each of us has a story that is shaped by our life experience. When we embrace this diversity and value our differences by being inclusive, it results in fresh ideas, new insights, creativity and innovation. Our ability to succeed and create value for our people, clients and communities, depend on that. We are still on a journey – and I am proud to be part of an organization that values diversity and supports an inclusive environment where our people can achieve their full potential.
Part of PwC‘s commitment to diversity and inclusion is leveraging external partnerships and promoting work and career experiences that will help people connect and develop as PwC Professionals – within and beyond our firm. Two noteworthy initiatives are PwC’s partnership with the United Nations Women HeForShe movement; and our Employee Resource Circles:
PwC is proud to be a founding IMPACT Champion of the United Nation’s HeForShe initiative – a global call-to-action for men to pledge for, and take real actions towards, gender equality. PwC will leverage its network globally to engage 80,000 or more men (women can pledge too!) in the HeForShe pledge over the next three years. We first announced this partnership in May, and Global Diversity Week 2015 is our big push for pledges, regardless of gender. Join us at heforshe.pwc.com and share how you will commit to making gender equality a global reality!
Employee Resource Circles (ERC’s)
Employee Resource Circles (ERC’s) are employee driven networks of staff and partners that connect with clients, students and communities on a shared set of values, interests or commonalities. Members engage in a range of activities that include social networking events, panel discussions with industry professionals and community fundraising initiatives – all achieving the goal of strengthening relationships between our people, clients and communities. PwC’s Circles include GLEE (Gay, Lesbian and Everyone Else), The Black Professionals Circle, Latin Connection and Women Upfront.
Diversity and inclusion isn’t something we ‘do’ – it shows in how we act and behave every day. I ask you to be part of our journey – there is opportunity here for everyone. Our firm is made up of so many talented people with unique backgrounds and experiences that it is possible to learn something new every day. I’m really proud to be a partner at PwC and I look forward to seeing our diversity and inclusion journey continue to advance – this week and beyond!
