It has been a few weeks since my last blog. The summer is flying by and life has been extremely busy! I have spent the last 3 weeks in Toronto working and then moved into a new place immediately when I returned. There is never a dull moment around here. However I do have exciting news to share.... I have been accepted into the US secondment program and will be heading to Texas in just over a month! I am super excited about this opportunity I have been given at PwC
The school year is approaching fast! As students gear back up to immerse themselves in university classes yet again, companies gear up for recruitment! For seniors this means not only do they have classes to attend, but they must perfect their resume, apply for jobs and attend interviews. The process can become overwhelming but I assure you everyone will get through it! This week I thought I might share a few resume tips
My co workers and I all sit in a series of cubicles which we refer to as the bullpen. It’s where you will see the majority of us during busy season with our heads down and our fingers frantically typing. It’s also where you can catch up with your cubicle neighbours on last night’s episode of whatever reality TV show is airing or where you can easily reach out to others with questions about work. It is rare when everyone is in the bull pen all together between vacation, client commitments or client field work, we all tend to come and go over a period of a work week. Being in a small office, you tend to get to know your co workers and they become friends, so when everyone is working in the office, the bull pen becomes a very busy environment.
When university students think about starting at PwC as a full time new associate or as a co-op student what do you think comes to their mind? A common scenario that many tend to picture is a new associate, running around the audit room taking lunch orders, faxing documents, mailing confirmations or data entry tasks. They tend to think you need to work your way up in the ranks to do “challenging work”. This a common misconception and not the life of a new associate in the audit practice at PwC. A common message that is communicated throughout PwC is empowerment of junior staff members, and PwC implements this message through a program called Enhanced Working Practices (EWP’s).
Next week marks the start of UFE leave for all CA students in the Atlantic Region. What does this mean? It means CA students will exchange their client files for study books, turn off their work email and step out of the office for the next 7 weeks. UFE leave will be given to each eligible candidate who will challenge the UFE in September of 2012. The Uniform Evaluation (UFE) is the last piece in achieving your Chartered Accountancy designation through the Atlantic program.
For the past 2 weeks I have been on vacation. During this time I travelled to New York City. It was the ideal time to travel to NYC because the weather definitely did not disappoint! This was my first trip to the Big Apple and I definitely plan on making a return trip. It is definitely true what they say about New York, it’s the city that never sleeps! I hope everyone is taking sometime this summer to enjoy the sun, family, friends and maybe even finding the time to travel.
After three weeks of participation from over 3,000 Canadians, the Citizen Compass results are in. The results reveal three key points relating to what Canadians want from government service delivery: convenience, cost and control.
Hi everyone, my name is Katherine and I am a senior associate in the Audit and Assurance group in the Saint John New Brunswick office.
I am originally from Perth-Andover NB, which is a small northern New Brunswick town. I came to Saint John for university and stayed after graduation for PwC!
The Citizen Compass initiative has been launched for almost two weeks! I have taken the time to participate in the Choicebook and have read several of the comments in the Idea Forum, have you? The Idea Forum topics range from services people would like to see online (adoption, passports) to apprehensions people have about the idea in general such as security. I encourage you all to take the time to visit both of these sites as they are very informative and very intriguing. The only way to have a say, is to participate!
Being a member of the generation Y group, my life revolves around the use of the internet. I pay bills through online banking, I enjoy shopping from the comfort of my own home, if I need to research something for work, or if I am simply looking for a recipe I tend to mutter the words “I’ll google that”. The reality is the internet affects my routine on a daily basis, does it affect yours? What if government service access was as easy as online banking or online shopping? What if you didn’t have to spend your lunch hour waiting in line to renew your driver’s license or renew your vehicle registration? And, what if you were kept up to date and aware of the services the government has available for you?
