We are well into busy season here at PwC, but I wanted to take some time today to let everyone know about the amazing social events we’ve had throughout the fall and winter so far. Since the reality is that we don’t see many of colleagues this time of year as most people are out of the office at different client sites, these socials are an amazing opportunity to catch up with friend from work in a relaxed setting.
At this stage in the recruiting season you’re likely putting the final touches on your resume and cover letter or have already submitted your application. The next phase of recruiting is probably the most nerve wracking – the waiting game. The good news is that the turnaround time at PwC is very quick so the wait shouldn’t be too long at all. However, I would encourage everyone to refrain from constantly refreshing their email inboxes but instead be optimistic and begin interview preparation.
Has a recruiter ever told you that they are searching for candidates that “fit” within the firm? Have you left that conversation wondering what “fit” means and how you can demonstrate you’re a perfect fit for the firm? I certainly remember thinking this when I went through the recruiting process a few years ago, especially after being told by a (non-PwC) firm that they liked me but I wasn’t a “perfect fit”. While frustrated at the time, I now respect that company’s decision as each firm’s unique culture is one of the biggest differentiating factors amongst the big four and I know I ended up finding the perfect fit for me at PwC.
The last few weeks I have been getting many questions on twitter, on linkedin, on facebook and as comments on this blog. By far, the most popular question that I have received is why I chose to apply and work in Ottawa as opposed to Toronto considering I grew up in Brantford (a city about an hour west of Toronto) and went to school in Kingston.
It is hard to believe summer is almost over and very soon students will be heading back to campus to begin another school year. The start of a new school year also marks the start of a busy six-week period for on-campus recruiting here at PwC.
Today’s “goodbye and back to school lunch” marks the end of the term for our summer interns and our co-op students. Our summer interns and co-ops are so valuable because they help keep the office running during a period when many staff are on summer vacation and all of our experienced associates are off at the School of Accountancy (SOA) in June and then studying for the Uniform Final Exam (UFE) for the remainder of the summer.
Following up on last week's blog about the different types of secondments available at PwC, this week I’ll talk about my short-term secondment to Charlotte, North Carolina from November 2011 to March 2012.
Looking back at my two years at PwC I can definitely say that the most exciting and memorable, yet challenging period of time at the firm was the five months spent on secondment in Charlotte, North Carolina this past busy season. My colleague Ainslie has blogged about secondments in tax but I wanted to offer some insight into different types of secondments available in AAG.
It’s a date circled on every sport enthusiast’s calendar, it comes only once every two years. It has been close to 30 months since the entire country felt the excitement of Vancouver 2010 and starting today the world’s top athletes will once again battle it out for two full weeks trying to be that little bit “faster, higher, or stronger”. The 2012 Summer Games officially kick off in London, England tonight and I couldn’t be any more excited. While I am excited to sit back and cheer on our fellow Canadians in London, there are four athletes in particular that I will be rooting extra hard for.
After a great vacation, this week I travelled to London (Ontario) for training. While sitting in the hotel conference room today, I reflected on my university graduation and how I thought all my “formal” learning was coming to an end. I could not have been more wrong!
