Failure: a topic that many dislike reading about and more so, a topic that many dislike experiencing. Whether you have previously failed an exam, an interview, or any other situation that you have crossed paths with, you must realize that failure is inevitable. Everyone has failed at some point in their career and everyone is bound to fail at some point in the future. I am no exception. Regardless of however much I have “achieved” to-date in my career, I have failed multiple times in life. Failure has made me the relatively “successful” person I am today. Dealing with failure for the first time is not an easy task, but once failure is overcome and dealt with face-to-face, there is nothing in this world that you should fear, not even failure itself. Read on to find out how I have capitalized on personal failures and how I have turned them into success stories that hopefully you can learn from!
Sweaty palms, gelled-back hair and a brand new suit. You think you are ready for your first day at work, but are you? As I look back to my first day at PwC as a New Associate, besides being nervous and excited, I can tell you that it was definitely one of the greatest feelings of my life. I knew I had made the right decision by choosing PwC as the firm where I would launch my career given the transition from university to a professional environment was seamless. Everybody at the firm was smiling, welcoming and equally as excited as I was. Having completed my first year at the firm, I want to take this opportunity to share with you what I believe are the five most essential things you should keep in mind before you head out for your first day at work, which hopefully will be at PwC!
I cannot believe that a year has almost passed since I launched my career at PwC in September 2011! What a year it has been. From sparking and strengthening relationships with clients, colleagues and future PwC prospects to studying for the CKE and SOA, I have to say this past year has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding years of my life. I cannot imagine solidifying my career path at such a rapid and rewarding pace at any other firm in the world besides PwC. Fortunately, this is just the beginning for me.
The transition to IFRS is nearly complete. At the end of this year, companies will be required to file under IFRS which means a big change in the accounting world. For many of us, that means that we need to learn a whole new accounting methodology. At PwC, our learning and development programs make it easy to learn all we need to know.
Bonjour.
Last week, I had the opportunity to spend a day volunteering with Common Ground, a non-profit organization. What did I do? Baked cookies! I will admit that it was my first time baking cookies so I was a little nervous on how they would turn out.
More and more, we are learning about the impact of IFRS to the accounting profession. The Canadian Accounting Standards Board (AcSB) has decided that Canada will adopt IFRS by 2011. Currently, approximately 100 countries have already made the transition to IFRS. As such, PwC has taken appropriate measures not only to help clients with the conversion to IFRS, but also to provide sufficient training to all partners and staff in the Audit & Assurance Group to ensure everyone is up to date with the technical requirements in order to contribute to their personal development at the firm.
