Ever heard of the term KISS? Well it means "Keep it simple stupid." This is something that my basketball coach used to tell me all the time and something that couldn't be further from the truth. This methodology is exactly why this week's MM is short and sweet.
Every January, when I have to begin to tell family and friends that work is starting to get really busy, they’re reply always is “Oh right, tax season is coming up.” The reality is that most people assume that accountants are busiest during tax season. However, the truth is that a lot of accountants define their busy season as the time between January and March. So why are we so busy during this cold, mostly uneventful time of year? And what does PwC do to help us through it?, read below to find out.
We are well into busy season here at PwC, but I wanted to take some time today to let everyone know about the amazing social events we’ve had throughout the fall and winter so far. Since the reality is that we don’t see many of colleagues this time of year as most people are out of the office at different client sites, these socials are an amazing opportunity to catch up with friend from work in a relaxed setting.
My colleagues and I will echo that the Consulting New Associates have ignited our Consulting Practice with youth, enthusiasm, fresh and brilliant talent and they have simply been amazing to work with! We have recently completed hiring for the 2013 Consulting New Associates and I wanted to say a special congratulations to all of you who have accepted your offer with us. Continue reading below to find out more about what the 2012 Consulting New Associates have to say about PwC.
I've sent out 3 questions to the 2012 Consulting New Associates to obtain their feedback about their PwC experiences in the past 2 months. Here are some of quotes directly from them:
So – you were a social butterfly at the
networking sessions, and built many meaningful relationships.
Then – you completely rocked your first (and
possibly second) interview, amazing your interviewers with your vast experience
and distinctive responses to their questions.
In the B.C. region, offers went out on
Friday, and because you were such a superstar, you have received offers from
more than one firm. Congratulations! Now
the tough part really begins – how do you choose between all of these great
opportunities?
I want to keep this blog rather short this week. I just thought I would discuss with you some of the PwC perks you should consider during recruitment season. With a big firm like PwC, they are able to offer many perks outside of salary and vacation time that not only motivates you to work hard, but perks that demonstrate that they care about more than just the quality of work we are providing. Some of the perks include the various social events thrown each year, our Acclaim Points System, and our Fitness Benefit Allowance.
The past 2 days have been some of the happiest moments I've had since joining PwC. Since May, I have been working with 9 people from the People and Change Practice across Canada to develop the HR Transformation & Technology Course for the PwC Consulting University. The past several months have been extremely busy as we had to develop the course materials in parallel to our client engagements. These past 2 weeks have been especially eventful coordinating the finalization of all the materials from all the content owners.
It’s a date circled on every sport enthusiast’s calendar, it comes only once every two years. It has been close to 30 months since the entire country felt the excitement of Vancouver 2010 and starting today the world’s top athletes will once again battle it out for two full weeks trying to be that little bit “faster, higher, or stronger”. The 2012 Summer Games officially kick off in London, England tonight and I couldn’t be any more excited. While I am excited to sit back and cheer on our fellow Canadians in London, there are four athletes in particular that I will be rooting extra hard for.
Just like any sports offseason, the accounting offseason consists of vacations, training and celebrating a successful audit/tax season. The summer months usually involve shorter hours, more time away and a higher focus on career and professional development. At PwC, we use this time to relax and regroup for the next season. Our coaches, managers and partners strategize the best way to approach the next season in order to perform more efficiently and effectively. Here are some of the ways we regroup.
Each consultant will tell you a different variation of their story of “week-in-the-life”. Here is my variation of that story.
As I’ve mentioned in my first post, I am one of PwC’s “Road Warriors” – making the weekly trek from Winnipeg to Calgary. A typical week for me starts either on Sunday night or early Monday morning. To be honest, when you travel to work as often as I do, packing is like a mastered sport – getting better each time you do it to a point that it just becomes second nature. I was always terrible at packing – but 31 countries and 111 cities, across 4 continents, gives you the opportunity to perfect this choir.
